21st Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts

The Lyme Art Academy of Fine Arts is hosting the 21st annual Old Lyme Christmas Tree Lighting.

The tree lighting will begin outside with town leaders (of both towns perhaps) saying words of welcome. Once the tree is lit, a few of the band members will lead the crowd to the Stobart barn. Luminaries will be placed as well to lead the crowd from the Christmas tree to Stobart.

The band will play in the Stobart barn. We help Carrie Wind (the LOL Middle School Band Director) bring over music stands from the middle school to set-up early on Friday. We might need to bring some chairs over from the Lecture Room if the children need to sit. We will confirm this with Mrs. Wind.

An announcement will be made about refreshments and the train exhibit. More luminaries will lead the group to the side door to lead into the Elizabeth Chandler Building.  Cookies and drinks can be set-up in main lobby or the gallery. We will have tables covered with table linens that the Academy already owns. We will be purchasing small holiday colored theme plates and napkins for the cookies. The LAOFA already have the hot cups for the hot chocolate here.

There will be tables in the lecture hall for holiday ornament creation for the children to take home. These ornaments will be the plastic balls that will be filled with fake snow. Using paint pens the children can add a snowman face and then tie a ribbon on the ornament so it can be hung on their Christmas tree at home.

We will have volunteers dressed as elves that will be collecting letters to Santa and giving out candy canes to the children. There will also be three beauty pageant winners that will be our “Winter Queens” who can take pictures and sign autographs. The elves and the Winter Queens have been facilitated by Dianna Hampton Dowson of Beautigasm Make-up Artistry and they are donating their time to the event as a public service donation.

Hampton Dowson Photography has donated their services to take pictures of the event to be used by the LAOFA for promotional materials and to archive the event.

Essex Savings Bank is providing light refreshments – hot chocolate and cookies.
